Alternative tour of the Campus Martius

Beyond the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain

Rome 1 day 5 stops 2.4 hours All Season 66

ABOUT THIS TRAIL

The Campus Martius is probably the most visited area of Rome's historic center. The field of Mars was originally a grassland used for military purposes- hence the dedication to the god of war- and was rapidly transformed by the emperor Augustus into the vibrant heart of the newly urbanized city. Houses, temples, and a myriad of great public structures followed one another in antiquity and throughout history. Nowadays, the original perimeter of the Campus Martius includes some of Rome's most well-known monuments, such as the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, and everything in between. In this alternative tour of the Campus Martius, I will take you down to the (relatively) less beaten yet incredibly picturesque paths within the area to visit the little gems hidden among the greatest monuments. With luxurious coffee breaks and artsy lunch stops to please both gluttons and art-lovers.

Taking the less beaten paths of Rome's most popular area to discover lesser known buildings, pretty street views, and oh-so-Instagrammable food places
