Description: Begin your walk at Marble Arch. Now on the corner of Hyde Park, Marble Arch was built by John Nash and initially intended to serve as an entrance to the courtyard of Buckingham Palace. Modeled on the Arch of Constantine in Rome, Marble Arch is one of the best examples of neoclassical architecture in London. A bronze equestrian statue of King George IV intended to crown the arch is now in Trafalgar Square. For over 100 years, three rooms inside the arch housed a police station.

Description: Marble Arch sits at the western end of Oxford Street, London's most famous shopping street. The street is home to famous department stores such as Selfridges, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer, House of Fraser, John Lewis & Partners among many others. Oxford Street is also well known for its Christmas lights, which are due to be switched on 6 November. If you're interested in buying something, perhaps wait until you've visited the Wallace Collection first. The street has many dining options for shoppers looking to take a break during the day.

Description: Proceed down Oxford Street and turn left at Duke Street. At the end of the street is Hertford House, home to the Wallace Collection. The collection is named after Sir Richard Wallace (1818–1890), the illegitimate son of Richard Seymour-Conway, 4th Marquess of Hertford (1800–1870), who was responsible for putting together much of the collection. The collection includes many pieces of art from pre-revolutionary France, as well as a substantial collection of armour and weapons. The first floor houses a collection of paintings including Old Masters. The most famous painting in the collection is Franz Hals's The Laughing Cavalier. The museum is free to visitors.

Description: Return to Oxford Street and continue walking east, making purchases on the way. Carnaby Street is a pedestrianized street in Soho which was well known for its role in London's music scene during the 'swinging sixties.' Located around the corner from Oxford Street and Regent Street, it is a popular shopping street throughout the year but comes alive at Christmas. The street has a well known reputation for its inventive Christmas decorations. In 2017, the switching on of the lights was accompanied by a party or festival.
